Lessons Learned: D.J. Bettencourt Reflects on His Time in Public Service
D.J. Bettencourt has had a long and successful political career, beginning with his work as a campaign volunteer for George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign. DJ Bettencourt has since held several political positions, including serving as a special aide to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
D.J. Bettencourt is a lifelong Salem, New Hampshire resident and has always been interested in politics. He began his political career by volunteering on campaigns, and his hard work and dedication quickly paid off. In 2002, he was an intern on Gordon J. Humphrey’s gubernatorial campaign and Mitt Romney’s gubernatorial campaign.
D.J. Bettencourt’s work on Romney’s campaign led to his appointment as a special aide to the Governor in 2003-2004. As a special aide, D.J. Bettencourt was responsible for many duties, including managing the Governor’s schedule, working with legislative staff, and overseeing the Governor’s policy initiatives.
D.J. Bettencourt’s work as a special aide to Governor Romney prepared him for his future political career. In 2004, he was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing district Rockingham-4. He would serve in the House for eight years, from 2004 to 2012.
During his time in the House, D.J. Bettencourt quickly made a name for himself as a hardworking and dedicated legislator. He was appointed Majority Leader in 2010 and held that position until his resignation in 2012.
Following his time in the House, D.J. Bettencourt was appointed as the policy director for New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu. In this role, D.J. Bettencourt was responsible for helping to develop and implement the Governor’s policy initiatives.
Today, DJ Bettencourt serves as New Hampshire’s Deputy Insurance Commissioner. In this role, he oversees the state’s insurance industry and works to ensure that consumers have access to high-quality insurance products at affordable prices.
Throughout his political career, D.J. Bettencourt has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and the people of New Hampshire.
